Womans Night 940x492

Just be yourself – a message of Hope

Moana Hope wowed more than 120 women in Timboon last week when her story of resilience, perseverance and determination took centre stage at the golf club.

Hope was the special guest at Timboon and District Healthcare Service’s annual Women’s Health Night on September 6.  The AFLW star spent time at Collingwood before recently signing with North Melbourne for the 2019 season.

Community Health Nurse Amanda Nash said Hope grew up in Broadmeadows and was one of 14 children. At the age of 12 she cared for her dying father and she is also a full-time carer for her sister Vinnie, Mrs Nash said.

“She is an extremely impressive young woman who has appeared on Australian Story and more recently Survivor – Champions v Contenders,” she said.

“Donna Ellis was our own Andrew Denton for the night conducting a Q&A type interview. Moana spoke openly and authentically about life’s challenges and how she embraced the opportunity and seized her moments.

“It was amazing how many women returned this year but also it was also great to see some new faces amongst the audience.”

Mrs Nash said Hope’s take-home message for the evening was ‘just be yourself’.

“Our women’s health night is always well attended and it was certainly no exception this year,” she said.

“Everyone appeared to have a great night which was reflected in some of the comments received from the audience which praised Moana for the amazing impact her message had encouraging young people to be happy with themselves, to be strong, to own it and not to sweat the small stuff. She was fantastic – such an inspiration.”

Once again, the night was catered for by The Fat Cow Food Co. The women were treated to a delicious two-course meal.

TDHS would like to thank, major sponsors Beach Energy and the raffle sponsors Timboon Provedore, Timboon Pharmacy, Timboon Hairitage, The Corner Store Timboon, 12 Rocks Port Campbell and Focus on Beauty Port Campbell.

Proceeds raised from the raffle are being donated to the New South Wales CWA Drought Relief Fund.
