New GP makes her way to Timboon

Dr Elaine Sladen began her journey in medical practice in Sri Lanka, taking an interest in emergency care before trying out general practice and discovering a passion for both disciplines.

After coming to Australia, Dr Sladen has had experience across the board.

“I was at Mercy Hospital for two years as an emergency registrar and before that, I was in Sri Lanka – I worked there for eight years as an emergency doctor,” she said.

“I worked in Deer Park for a short while as a part time general practitioner to get some experience.

“I felt like general practice is a good to fit for me, so I’m excited to start.”

Dr Sladen said she is especially interested in emergency work after working in Sri Lanka for eight years as an emergency doctor.

“I chose Timboon because I felt like the team was really friendly and they do comprehensive care as well,” she said.

“They have the urgent care here which I love to work in, because I’ve worked in emergency medicine for a while now and didn’t want to let go of that aspect of care.

“I wanted a clinic which has emergency care as well, and we have both emergency care and general practice here, so I wouldn’t be letting go after coming here.”

Since Dr Sladen grew up in the countryside in Sri Lanka, she said Timboon already feels like home.

“I love the countryside – I was a country girl,” she said.

“I’m still unpacking, but it’s definitely been okay so far.

“I’ve had a couple of walks around the block, I’ve been to Berry World, and I love it there.

“People seem really friendly here, it’s a small community which I understand, it’s close-knit, but the people seem lovely.

“I’m excited to be here.”

Dr Sladen is joining Dr Warwick Rouse, Dr Andrea Hedgland and Dr Mariya Mathew at Timboon Medical Clinic and will be available for booking appointments from Wednesday, March 12.
